Shipping and Receiving

Shipping and Receiving

The transportation of goods and services, including raw-materials, presents challenging exposures to loss for businesses of every size in every industry. Lapointe Insurance provides a comprehensive plan for dealing with risks of loss associated with transportation.

Coverages are tailored to your needs and include:

Substitution of Vehicles

A carrier for hire may not only be responsible for damage to goods
in transit but also for the reusable packaging in which those goods are contained. This coverage isn't offered by every insurer.

Cargo Recovery Extra Expense

A vehicle that breaks down or is involved in an accident may require towing. Cargo may be held by the towing business until towing charges are satisfied, even if the cargo isn't
affected by the incident. The additional costs for emergency towing and to obtain held goods can be very high. This coverage is almost never considered until after a loss.

Mechanical Breakdown of Refrigeration and Heating Units

Perishable cargo is particularly susceptible to loss. Carriers for hire who transport goods in refrigerated or heated trucks need this coverage to help them get back on the road
when an unexpected breakdown occurs

Reusable Packing Containers

A carrier for hire may not only be responsible for damage to goods in transit but also for the reusable packaging in which those goods are contained.

Earned Freight Charges

If an accident or breakdown occurs during transit, the carrier for hire may not be paid. Few agents address this loss of income.

Debris Removal Expense

The cost to remove and dispose of commodities that have no salvage value continues to rise. Under some coverage forms, debris removal expenses are not reimbursable

Pollutant Cleanup and Removal

When an over the road accident occurs, pollutants may be released onto land or into water. Some policies do not provide overage for this exposure.

Loading and Unloading

The potential for damage to goods in transit is especially acute during loading and unloading of the vehicle

Newly Acquired Vehicles and Terminals

When a company purchases or acquires a new vehicle or terminal, reporting it to their insurance agent or carrier may not be a priority. Policies may be endorsed to include automatic coverage within specific time frames.
